Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, the President of  the Kalgidhar Society which runs  22  English medium co-educational institutions under the name of Akal Academy, was in Surrey, B.C. Canada together with  Dr. Khem Singh Gill and students from the Akal Academy, Baru Sahib in May 2008.

The students from Akal Academy Baru Sahib had programs at various Gurdwaras in the lower mainland. They performed kirtan with traditional string instruments which were enjoyed immensely by the sangat. 

A special function was also held at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall in Surrey, B.C. at which Baba Ji was present with the students. A very instructive, informative program was organised which included amongst other things, speeches by Baba Ji, Dr Khem Singh Ji, Sardadr Avtar Hari Singh, amongst others.

Theere was a gatka dispaly, a video presentation, kaveshiri, an instrumental presentation, raffle draw, regonition of donors, etc.

The event was extremely well organised by a team of volunteers led by Avtar Singh Gill and Dr, Pargat Singh Bhurji.

After his stay in the lower mainland, Baba ji and the students toured other towns in British Columbia including Kelowna, Williams Lake and Prince George before heading east to Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Toronto.
